Why are Apple talking about the FaceTime feature on the new iPhone 4 as being a new innovation when video calling has been around for ages on phones?

I believe they are just talking about the name “Face Time”, not about creating video-chat.
What it’s true is that I don’t think any phone out today has the capability of video-chatting, so they did create video-chatting on a smart phone, but I could be wrong.

For anyone who has it, how does FaceTime (Apple) work?
Since it’s also on the iPod Touch, will it connect to an iPhone and vice versa ? Also, does it only connect to other people with FaceTime? Like, say the other person that you’re trying to connect to has a regular cellphone or regular iPod touch..

You can connect with anyone that has facetime only… No other devices will connect without them having facetime…

I have an iPod touch and my mom has an iPhone. We want to use facetime together and I know that I can call her on facetime, but how does she call me on facetime?

Tell her to go to the facetime green icon on the main screen and type in your email and press the call button
