Need help with the iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak…?
I’m running jailbroken 4.0 right now. I’ve already backed up my Cydia stuff with AptBackup.

Since I’m not too good with this kind of stuff, I just wanted to get some stuff straight. I update to 4.2.1 from iTunes then do the jailbreak right? And I read that Redsn0w does a tethered jailbreak, but it doesn’t say that anywhere on the guide. Is that true? And is it worth it to do the jailbreak if it is?
Oh, btw, I have a 3GS.

redsn0w is currently untethered for the following devices:
* iPhone 3GS (old bootrom)
* iPhone 3
* iPod touch 2G (Non-MC Model)
And tethered devices are:
* iPhone 3GS (new bootrom)
* iPhone 4
* iPad
* iPod touch 2G (MC Model)
* iPod touch 3G
* iPod touch 4G
So, you have a 3GS.. If your phone is on old bootrom, then it will be untethered, otherwise it is tethered. If you want to know which bootrom you have, you can use free tool “f0recast” made available by ih8sn0w. To download f0recast, just go on ih8sn0w.com and there’s a option to download f0recast for Win/Mac.

Ipod Touch 4.2.1 iOS Jailbreak?
Does anybody know if there is a jailbreak for 4.2.1 yet? I used spirit to jailbreak my old ipod touch, and really like the simplicity and ease of that particular software, so if I could use it again that would be great. So does anybody know if there is any jailbreaks for 4.2.1 on Spirit, or when any are coming out?

Actually I used Redsnow 0.96 beta 4 on my 2nd gen (non-mc model) and its awesome.
It works perfectly fine and i havent had any crashes
and because mine is a mb model its untethered, so i dont have to jailbreak it everytime i run out of battery.
Just watch a couple youtube videos concerning your ipod touch model and check out the http://blog.iphone-dev.org/ because these guys are the creators of jailbreaking and anything on their blogs is legit =)

There isn’t a fully operational 4.2.1 jailbreak out yet. Rumours are that it will be released soon, but as it stands there’s only redsn0w beta, which as you probably know is not Windows compatible. It’s also meant only for developers; with the unsolved problems you likely wouldn’t want it yet (no Bluetooth and I believe the iPod functionality on iPhones doesn’t work).
